The Nutcracker

Our family went with 75 other homeschool families to see the Nutcracker this past Tuesday. It was a nice treat for this holiday season.

Saying Goodbye

On this past Sunday we had to say goodbye to our friends, Stacy and Hans and their children, as they follow God's leading to the mission field. We met Stacy and Hans in our Life class and our kids have become good friends as well. As crazy as this time is for them they had us and two other families over for one of their many farewell parties. Hans had gotten 4 deer this year and so we had a cook out. It was such a special time of fellowship, singing songs, and time spent in prayer over this exciting journey for them. As we all have felt, this is so very sad for us to say goodbye, yet happy to see God's calling and provision for their family. They have a special place in our hearts and will be in our prayers as they follow God's leading.

Their son, Joshua, helped plan this party and all of the kids were thrilled to see that he had planned a pinata for this get together.

The Star of Bethlehem at Morehead Planetarium

We have enjoyed our year long membership at the planetarium this year. This past Friday night we went to see a program about the Star of Bethlehem. The kids are standing in front of the multi-million dollar machine that makes the stars and planets come alive.

December 12 in North Carolina

We couldn't resist snapping one shot of the kids as we were all headed to the indoor pool at the Y. It almost felt like we could swim outside as it was in the upper 70's and was supposed to hit 80 that day.

Christmas concert rythm section

The Christmas concerts went well this year and here is pictured Brian with the rest of the rythm section. There were four concerts in all and it was a blessing to see it all come together.

Kidz Praise Christmas Concert

Austin, Lindsey, and Reece each were in different choirs for their Christmas concert. Austin had a speaking part this year and we would have to say that Kidz Praise is Reece's most favorite class at church. Here Reece is singing in this picture above. Lindsey is in the front row on the next picture. We mainly got Austin's speaking part on video this year. Janet helped with the 5 year old choir so it was a busy yet great evening.

When will I ever use this?

I think we got Austin saying his first "When will I ever use this?" in school this year. For third grade English, Austin spends time daily diagramming sentences. He is doing a great job in English and we can all understand why he would ask this question in regards to diagramming.

Thanksgiving Weekend

This past month, as is the case with many families, is a flurry of activities. I'll try to update our family and friends on some of the Megilligan happenings. For Thanksgiving we traveled to PA to see Brian's Uncles, Aunts, counsins and of course Granny (pictured above). After returning home we spent a family day of sleeping in, going out for brunch, watching the past 9 family Christmas videos, and decorating the house while listening to Christmas music. It was a great weekend.

This past weekend we had our annual "Pig Pickin". It was at the fire station and hosted by the tech guys from church. The kids love this event because they get "free reign" to climb on the fire trucks and run around the station with their friends. Of course the adults enjoy the fellowship and all the great food.

Reece is very enthusiastic about his school work this year. Everything seems to be his "favorite" subject. He always asks to do more Math, Phonics, Language Development cards and Growing up with Amber Lamb character stories. Here you seem him doing a math lesson of shape/color attributes.
The picture, above, is Reece doing his letter blends for phonics. The next couple of pages start him on three letter words. Our last child to read! Very exciting!
This is Reece's Saxon Kindergarten Math's meeting/calendar book. He practices ABAB/ABB patterns, orally tells us what day it was yesterday, today and tomorrow. Then he shares all the days of the week and the current month and year. In the picture he writes a number, in the arrows, to show how many days we have done Math this year.
The last picture shows how all the kids like to join Reece and remember their Preschool Language Development cards and the Growing Up with Amber Lamb character story. Today's card was about camels and their unique features. We all found it interesting that camels have three eyelids including one that they are able to see through and keep the desert sand out of their eyes. The world is opening up to Reece and he is ready for it!

King Louis XIV

In our History lessons we learned that Louis XIV became King of France at the age of 4 years and 8 months. Lindsey just burst out laughing at the thought of a King at Reece's age. She just laughed and laughed that Reece could be King of a country. Reece, on the other hand, thought that would be "pretty cool". Just look at his smile!

The Wachtels visit to North Carolina - UPDATED!

What a fun time we had, a couple of weekends ago, when Eric, Amy, Ben and Olivia came for a visit. We enjoyed hanging out at Shelly Lake, spending a day at the Marbles Museum and even competing in tennis on the Wii.

Halloween 2007

This was Austin in 2003 as an almost five year old.

Now Reece is wearing this outfit as a four year old.

He and his siblings had a great time tonight. It was great to get out in our neighborhood and see our neighbors!

The kids made out pretty well too. Mommy and Daddy can't wait for bed time so we can pillage.

Kid Cameras

Did anyone know that there are digital cameras for 4 year olds? I didn't know that but Aunt Nar knew and couldn't resist treating all the kids to their own digital camera for Austin's birthday! This picture is for you Aunt Nar!

Austin's Birthday

Austin really wanted to go to the North Carolina Zoo for his birthday so that is where we took him with his good friend, Caleb. The kids had a wonderful time and it was the perfect "birthday gift" for
