The day after Thanksgiving

As is our tradition we went to work decorating the whole house and especially the Christmas tree. I love our kid's ages as they jump right into the whole 'decorating process'. I love this first picture because Reece pulled out the directions - for the tree - and was explaining to Brian how to put it up.

I don't have pictures of this, but someone taught us how to string the lights as each layer of tree is put on. Then the lights seem to be coming from within the tree and you don't see any wires. We love doing that. Two years ago our white lights went out and Brian went to the store and decided on color lights. It is nice to have a change and -as Brian said - all children should have colored lights, on their tree, for a least a few years of their childhood. And yes, they are the blinking ones. The kids love that!

Brian spent a good part of the day putting up his family's Lionel train set. This has been in his family for 50 plus years and has been a Megilligan tradition that is now passed down to our kids. Reece (and all the kids) could not be more excited about this. We all loved watching the two train sets going around our tree and even having little smoke pellets that give off puffs of smoke when the engine heats up. Brian wondered if there are any modern kid's toys that would actually last as long as this train set has. Good point.. A great day all in all.

Hey, anybody for HO gauge? I think that's going to be granddad's next quest if grandmom will go along with it! Anyway, it does this guys old heart good to see that many Megilligan generations are getting good use of that Lionel. When they kids come north, they'll have to compare our tree with their tree and see which one looks better. Take pictures with your cameras and will see. Granddad

don't you just love decorating for Christmas! our tradition has always been the day after Thanksgiving too. however, since we moved to Raleigh we have been away from home on Thanksgiving. So, we decorated on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving this year. It was great to come home to the house ready for Christmas! :)

That train is awesome. I don't think they make them like that anymore. We want to get one for our tree as well. But we are thinking it may have to be a Thomas the Train.. hehehe
I love that your son is teaching his Dad how to do the tree.. HEHEHE
