Confession....

I have a confession to make - and even as I make this confession I am aware that some of you know this already. Starting in January, our family started doing Tae Kwon Do. Yes....this IS a confession. You see there was a time where we would get all dressed up in our uniforms and open up our garage door. Then we (Brian especially) would peek from side to side to see if any neighbors were around and then quickly jump into the van. We had originally planned to let our kids 'experience' Tae Kwon Do and soon found out that they encourage the family to do it together.

Oh... the things you will do for your children, I'm tellin ya! I do remember Dr. Dobson saying that you can't count 'sitting on the sidelines at soccer, basketball, baseball', etc. as "family time", so I am hoping that we'd at least get a "thumbs up" from Dr. D. :)

Especially when I hear words of 'tournaments' and "you need to do this or that or the Masters will make you do push-ups", etc. Oh...and "aren't you excited to break concrete?" What??? Well.....maybe me, but my husband kind of needs his fingers to make a living - can he be excused please???

Some good things have happened. Our kids love it when they get paired up with us. It IS good family time. We are learning right along side our kids. I have learned to be loud with my "gi-yup". They told us if we don't yell loud when we punch, we'd have to do several push-ups. Let me tell you....my kids thought I was nuts, but I even practiced yelling loud while driving to this or that. The threat of push-ups will make me do crazy things, but I do feel now I sound pretty mean and I'm pretty proud of that! :)

We have our FIRST testing tonight and I'll be calling on Jesus for this one. It's at 5:30p.m. in front of the Masters - black belts....so if you feel so inclined to pray also - that would be great.

Brian is NOT willing for a 'family photo' quite yet (remember how we look both ways before we jump in our van -- baby steps), so here is a picture of something I don't want to forget. How much I was a "fish out of water" in January. I didn't even know that you had to take off your socks and shoes for Tae Kwon Do. Didn't know ANYTHING about it. This was the winter when I choose not to paint my toe nails and that is all I could think about during the first class. My toe nails are bare! To top it off, the Master was showing us proper foot position for a kick and he grabbed my foot for a demonstration. Have mercy.....I don't even think I had used moisturizer for a month. Winter feet....oh my! Yes....you could fully say that I do not seem like one to be kicking and punching when I'm concerned mostly about the lack of pedicure.

So....regardless of what happens tonight --- my toe nails ARE painted and that makes me happy! :)

We can't wait to take the course at ODB when E is old enough. Thanks for the heads up on the bare feet thing. I wouldn't have thought about that either, and not only do I have bare toes, but I have former crazy runner toes...gag! We have friends from co-op who have done the M. Trips with their class. Sounds wonderful. Your kids are so blessed to have parents who sacrifice to spend time with them! If I'm ever scared to walk to my car from church when it's dark, I'm asking you to be my escort!

Love the toes! And how wise to take to heart that sitting on the sidelines does not qualify for being engaged with your children...
